Wanda has been married to Marc for 27 years and has 2 adult kids. Our kids started out in public school but the Lord clearly impressed on our hearts to bring them home in 2009. We completed our homeschool journey in 2021 when our son completed grade 12. That same year, the Lord opened an opportunity to stay involved in homeschooling, this time in a support and encouragement role by joining Roots in the office. I enjoy getting to know the families and supporting them as they walk in obedience to what the Lord has called them to do in discipling their children.

Juli has been married to her husband Nick for 5 years , and they have two young toddlers. Having been homeschooled from grade K-12 as well as through the various administrative jobs she has held, Juli feels comfortable and competent regarding the homeschool community and its needs. She has taken opportunities to stay involved with children’s programs such as Roots and enjoys being part of family focused programs. The opportunity to join Roots again came at the right time as she was looking for a job flexible enough to accommodate her young family and give her the freedom to invest in them.

Jenn is new to homeschooling and new to Roots! After having her kids in the public school system for three years, she knew that God wanted her and her family to make the transition to homeschooling, and Roots was the perfect fit. Although this is a new venture, Jenn feels completely in her element, as she was homeschooled for a lot of elementary school herself. Jenn and her husband have been married for over 12 years, and they are parents to three lower-elementary school children. Jenn has a vast background in admin, and she feels beyond blessed to be a part of such a great community.

My husband Garth and I have been married for almost 25 years. We have 2 boys, Hezekiah and Amos, who have graduated or are close to graduating. We homeschooled them from the very beginning, and have loved the opportunities homeschool has given us for amazing family discipleship and great relationships. Roots has always been a wonderful support, and I am thrilled to be able to join the Roots team as an office assistant. I am passionate about the many benefits of homeschooling and pray I can be an encouragement to other homeschoolers as they walk through this journey, desiring to raise their children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.

My husband, Jason, and I have been married for nearly 23 years, and we are the parents of seven children — three adult sons followed by four daughters. In 2025, we were delighted to welcome our first daughter‑in‑law into the family. I began bookkeeping for Roots in 2006 and, apart from a short break, have continued in that role ever since. Our family has been homeschooling since 2011, and we are now preparing to graduate our third son through home education. Our daughters currently attend a small Christian school, which has been a wonderful fit for our family. I’ve worked with Roots for many years and continue to value the relationships and support found in this community. I am thankful to God for the impact Roots has had in our lives and for the way it has blessed our family.

Alisa Weening holds a BA in English Secondary Ed and a M.Ed. degree both from Dordt University. She and her husband have been homeschooling their three children through Roots since 2016 and love the journey. Prior to marrying, Alisa taught in Christian schools for 15 years in both Northern BC and in Central Alberta. She firmly believes that each person has been uniquely created and gifted by God. Parents are called to nurture and educate their children to His glory, on the foundation of His Word, and by His grace. She is excited to encourage parents in the journey of educating their children.

Dorothy received her B.Ed from Brock University in St. Catherines, Ontario. She moved to Edmonton in 2002 and worked for a private tutoring company until making the switch to becoming a facilitator with Roots in 2021. Over the years she has been involved with the large homeschool community at her church, including encouraging parents and teaching the children church history while their moms are in the women's Bible study. In her spare time, she likes to read almost anything she can get her hands on and to garden as much as possible on a small apartment balcony.

I taught in public and Christian schools for five years before I was married. My specialities are music and art. My husband Greg and I had eight children when the opportunity came about to adopt two girls we knew who were suddenly in need of a home. So now we have ten: four boys and six girls. We have homeschooled since the beginning of our children’s education. Being a teacher, I had first hand knowledge of what goes on in schools, and we wanted to give our children an education saturated in God’s Word. We do traditional homeschooling, Our eldest has a Ph.D. in chemistry, one is a paramedic, one is a mother of three and training to be a missionary. One son is a drywaller and another is a truck driver. We have an adult son who still lives on the property and aids us in our ministry. We have thirteen grandchildren. For 28 years we have run Ross Haven Bible Camp and the Lord has provided for us through periods of need and spiritual attack, as well as times of blessing and ease. We are grateful for the years we have been able to invest in our children through the freedom of homeschooling.

I was a high school Math and Science teacher for 5 years at Henry Wise Wood before starting a family. My husband, Brian, and I had 2 daughters and we started our whole home schooling journey in 1991 when it was clear to us (even as brand new Christians) that the public system was not going to teach our girls what matters to God.. We followed a traditional approach and always took it one year at a time but because our reason for starting home education (discipleship) had not changed, we ended up traditionally home educating both daughters all the way through "grade 12" before watching each of them pursue post-secondary degrees, marry and launch out into their own family life (that includes home educating our 5 grand children). Though there were times of fatigue and loneliness, financial challenges and spiritual warfare, because of the kind of ongoing discipleship rooted relationship we still have with our daughters, and now with their husbands and our 5 grandchildren, we have NEVER EVER regretted the work and dedication involved in the choice to home educate and would do it again in a heartbeat. God kept and is still keeping His promise to supply all we need for life and godliness. We give Him all the praise for any fruit that has come from the journey.

Erwin Jack grew up in a Christian home. He graduated from the University of Calgary in 1988 with a Bachelor of Education. He spent 15 years in the Calgary public system noticing trends which were not consistent with truth and Christian principles. He moved into the private sector for many years. Upon meeting his wife, Michelle, in 2007, he learned about home education. He and his wife home educate their three children. In 2025, he became a facilitator with Roots. Erwin firmly believes that parents need to be responsible for providing a Christ- centered education for their children to set them up for living a life in a God honouring way and equipping them with essentials skills needed to function in home and work life.

Liane received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba and went on to teach grade 1 and kindergarten in a public school setting. She eventually realized that she wanted to make disciples through God centered teaching, which wasn’t an option in public school, so she went on to create a Christian homeschool program to support Manitoba parents in their homeschool journeys. For most of her adult life, Liane has used the gifts God gave her, and her passion for working with children, to get involved in youth groups and leading children ministries at her church. In 2023, Liane and her husband were sent out by their church to help support a new church plant in Calgary. They have three adorable dogs that they love to take on adventurous hikes. In her spare time, Liane likes to read and spend time with friends; going for walks, playing board games, or meeting up for coffee.

Megan graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelors in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. She has two decades of experience teaching Sunday School and in running children's programming in her church. She paid her way through University by tutoring math and science, and then taught three years of Kindergarten and Special Needs with Edmonton Public Schools. In 2011 she and husband Andrew welcomed their first child, and she made the decision to leave teaching to stay-home with her children. Megan's children attended a Christian school until the pandemic sent them home part way through their Grade 2 and Kindergarten school years. God clearly and graciously made it clear that homeschooling was his best will for their family, and her children have been homeschooled with Roots since the fall 2020 school year. As a special needs parent, and as a follower of Christ, Megan firmly believes that each child is an image-bearer of Christ, designed to glorify God as creator, and to serve Him with good-works. She rejoices at the privilege of educating her own children, and of discipling them towards lives of obedience and service to God.

Melanie Dyer lives in Carstairs with her husband Corey and their three children. After graduating from high school as a homeschool student, she attended Trinity Western University, where she met her husband and received her B. Ed. She taught kindergarten and grade 1 in the public school system in northern Alberta for 7 years before the birth of their first child. She has been homeschooling her own children for 9 years and has loved the journey immensely.

Greg Lammiman and his wife Shauna live in Didsbury and are parents of six and grandparents of seven. All six children have graduated from home education, so Shauna is now a retired homeschool mom from a career of 29 years. Greg has his B.R.E. from Alberta Bible College and his B.Ed. from the University of Calgary. He had a thirty year career in the elementary grades before retiring and later joining Roots as a facilitator. Greg is a strong advocate for the rights and responsibilities of parents as the primary “disciplers” of their children.

I received my B.Ed. from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. I taught high school Biology and Physics for six years at a Christian school in Edmonton, and moved to Calgary in 2007, where I taught as a substitute with CBE before having my first child. My husband and I have six kids, and have been homeschooling with Roots for four years. I teach elementary Sunday school, and lead women’s bible studies in my church, and believe that God should be the center of all education. I am excited to walk with families and students, and encourage and support them both in academics and love and knowledge of the Lord!

After years of working with youth in different outreach ministries, Rebekah decided to pursue teaching and graduated with her Education degree in 2018. After that, she taught upper elementary in a number of private and public schools before leaving to start a family. Rebekah was homeschooled from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and her experience there was so positive that she has always been a huge advocate of the benefits of a home-based education. Rebekah believes that homeschooling is not only a wonderful way of providing a quality education that is individualized to each child's unique gifts, but also helps us disciple our children to walk with the Lord and learn through the eyes of faith. Rebekah has served as a Facilitator with Roots for several years now and considers it an honour to walk alongside families as they pursue a Christ-centered education for their kids. Outside of work, Rebekah loves to run, play sports, explore playgrounds with her boys (Matthew and Levi), beat her husband Mark at Scrabble, and drink coffee.

Renae worked as an Education Assistant for many years working with special needs students and in a regular classroom before deciding to attain her teaching degree. She enjoyed teaching a variety of grades before marrying and now has five children. The homeschool life is very rewarding in that she can watch her children learn and grow. She loves bringing the children alongside to learn when she does her grocery shopping, gardens, cooks or bakes in the kitchen, or sews a project.

Wendy lives in Calgary with her husband, Darryl, and are parents of two adult children, Emily and Benjamin. She received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Calgary, and worked for almost ten years with the Calgary Board of Education. When their daughter was entering grade two, Wendy and Darryl felt the Lord's calling to bring her home and begin their home educating adventure. Four years later when their youngest was beginning school, there was no question they would continue. In June of 2019, this 17 year journey came to an end as their youngest graduated from home education. She is incredibly grateful to the Lord for His provision and His grace as they navigated the various stages. Wendy is very passionate about the rights of a parent to educate and disciple their children at home. She began her role as facilitator with Roots in 2020, and feels incredibly blessed to be able to support and encourage the Roots families.

After earning my Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge, I began my teaching career in French Immersion Kindergarten. I loved my time in the classroom, but it also opened my eyes to the possibilities of learning outside of it. Not long after the birth of our first son, my husband and I began exploring home education, and the adventure began! We were blessed to raise our two boys in the Rocky Mountain foothills west of Cochrane, where we still call home. I homeschooled both boys through graduation, enjoying eighteen years filled with God’s blessings, plenty of glue and glitter, countless science experiments, and a house full of joyful chaos and love. Our boys are now grown and taking on the world, and our family has expanded to include a wonderful daughter-in-law and the cutest grandson ever. While my own homeschooling years have come to an end, I continue to enjoy walking alongside other home education families, supporting, encouraging, and cheering them on in their own journeys.

I am deeply grateful to my parents for planting the seeds of faith in my heart from an early age. I remember my Dad giving me piggyback rides up our stairs and, almost every night before bed, reading John 3:16 to me from a wall hanging in our home. Years later, when I was in my early twenties, my Mom came to a saving faith in Christ Jesus. At the time, I was firmly opposed to Christianity, but God heard her faithful prayers and used them to lead me to Jesus in 2013. I was attending a New Age gathering where the speaker was sharing the belief that all roads lead to God. Yet something deep within my heart rejected this idea and affirmed that Jesus is the only way. My Mom later confirmed this truth for me when she shared Jesus' words in John 14:6: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” I was introduced to home education when I met my husband, Tyler, in 2015. His wonderful parents had educated both of their children at home. My husband and sister-in-law, Ashley, have both known Jesus and His love from an early age, and I saw firsthand the strong character and Christian worldview that had been nurtured through their upbringing. I knew I wanted to provide that same kind of foundation for my own children. Before staying home with our three children, Matthew, Eden, and Benjamin, I taught French Immersion in the public school system for ten years. Today, I am incredibly grateful for the privilege of educating my children at home and for the opportunity to walk alongside other homeschooling families as they navigate their own unique educational journeys, with Jesus at the center.
