Contemporary Calgary: Entwined Exhibit Tour

Join us for a guided student tour of Entwined, a large group exhibition taking over several spaces inside Contemporary Calgary’s iconic building from December 5, 2025 to March 15, 2026. Featuring work by nineteen artists and collectives from the Prairies and beyond, Entwined invites students to dig into big questions about our relationship with the land, ecosystems, and all forms of life.

The exhibition includes a wide mix of media—installation, sculpture, photography, textiles, video, and digital animation—and brings together artists working with ecological research, Indigenous worldviews, science, mythology, and imaginative futures. Using both natural and human-made materials, the artists highlight how deeply connected we all are to the world around us.

Throughout the tour, students will encounter artworks that explore themes like deforestation, resource extraction, settler colonialism, biodiversity, climate responsibility, and renewal. Highlights include Carrie Allison’s beaded tree rings honouring forests lost to development, Adrian Stimson’s baby bumblebee regalia celebrating tradition and ecological balance, and Qavavau Manumie’s drawings inspired by Inuit legends and interspecies connection. Other works look at how images shape the way we see nature, while some artists transform found or discarded materials into thoughtful reflections on care, resilience, and change.

Spanning the Ring Gallery, Dome, Bow View Hall, and Atrium, Entwined encourages students to think critically about how contemporary art responds to environmental and social issues. The tour also opens space for conversation around material choices, collaboration, research-based art practices, and how art can build empathy and a stronger sense of connection to the natural world.

Curated by Mona Filip, Entwined is an engaging and thought-provoking experience for students interested in contemporary art, environmental topics, Indigenous perspectives, and interdisciplinary creative practices.

The guided tour will run for approximately 30 minutes, after which families are welcome to explore the gallery on their own and stay as long as they’d like. Students are encouraged to bring sketchbooks or writing materials to respond to the artworks.

Gallery guidelines: to help keep the space safe and enjoyable for everyone, please remember no running, no touching the artwork, no loud voices, listen to the gallery staff, no food or drink in the galleries, and respect the space and other visitors.

Parking is available onsite for $2.50 per 30 minutes, to a daily maximum of $12. The gallery is also conveniently located next to the Downtown West–Kerby CTrain Station.

PARENTS' HOUSEKEEPING

1. We need your assistance in ensuring that your children are at class on time and picked up at the end of each session on time. This allows the classes to start in a timely manner.

2. Parents are responsible for transporting and supervising their children at all times while the child is not in class.

3. Parents are responsible to stay on site at the venue during class time in case of an emergency.  Should you not be able to stay, a letter with the parent signature, stating who is responsible for your child in your absence (an adult staying on site), must be given to the event organizer.

4. There are no refunds past the registration deadline unless a class must be cancelled due to lack of student enrolment.

5. Each child needs to bring a labelled water bottle, water fountains are not always available.

Students: Roots reserves the right to make final decisions regarding the acceptance of any student into the program. Students who do not demonstrate an attitude of cooperation and willingness to respect the rights and property of others will be dismissed after two warnings are issued. There will be no refund.

WAIVER

On behalf of my child, I/we hereby waive and release the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship, The Father’s House Christian School and any Roots volunteer/facilitator/administrative staff of the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship from any liability to my(our) children. I/We are fully aware of the risks and potential for harm involved in such events, and on behalf of our child, release from liability Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship (Roots), The Father’s House Christian School and waive any claims such minor may have as a result of an accident, mishap or negligence of the Released Party and/or and other party under or affiliated with the Released Party.

I acknowledge that I, the parent/guardian of the registered attendee/s agree to stay on site at the venue of the program, and if space allows in the classroom to oversee my child/ren for the duration of the program.  Should I not be able to stay at the venue with my child/ren, a handwritten note with my signature will be sent with my child and given to the program organizer, stating the adult who is staying on site and has agreed to be responsible for my child/ren for the duration of the program.
