Do You Have a Struggling Learner?

Biography: Dr. Paulene H. Kamps is a retired registered psychologist who was born, raised, and educated in Alberta, Canada. For over 30 years, she worked as a certified teacher and an educational psychologist in various publicly-funded school districts. She also owned and operated a very specialized private practice in Calgary for over 25 years. Given society’s rising interest in different neurodevelopmental conditions, she is pivoting from her role as a registered psychologist -- because she wants to make herself available to many persons beyond Alberta's boundaries; specifically, Dr. Kamps hopes to offer professional consultations about various topics at an international level.

Presentation Description: Because Dr. Kamps possesses a broad and diverse level of training across multiple disciplines, she has an inquisitive mind, she has many years of experience, and she is open to fresh and unconventional ideas, she has always viewed learning problems from a rather unique perspective. In this presentation, Dr. Kamps will share with parents – when they should start to feel some genuine concern about their child’s focus and attention, motor skill development, academic performances, or their psycho-social emotional well-being. Dr. Kamps will also share some of the kinds of tests and activities different professionals may want to administer to your child and/or what kinds of diagnoses may result. And, she will share an overview of how she conducted her work with families, why she did so, and what kinds of questions to ask of professionals when seeking help. As the conclusion draws to a close, Dr. Kamps is willing to take questions from audience members. As well, she is willing to offer some ideas about next steps -- in case there are individuals who want to consider having their child assessed.

I acknowledge that I, the parent/guardian of the registered attendee/s agree to stay on site at the venue of the program, and if space allows in the classroom to oversee my child/ren for the duration of the program.  Should I not be able to stay at the venue with my child/ren, a handwritten note with my signature will be sent with my child and given to the program organizer, stating the adult who is staying on site and has agreed to be responsible for my child/ren for the duration of the program.
