Funded Kindergarten Registration Fee

In Alberta, kindergarten registration is optional. However, should you choose to register for kindergarten, students are to beat least 4 years and 8 months by August 31st and less than 6 years as of September 1st of the school year, meaning that the student must turn 5 years old by December 31, 2023

Roots has two options for registration, funded or non-funded.

1) Funded Registration Requirements: Registration with the Roots CHEF society & Alberta Education for $450.50 funding reimbursement

In this order:

1. Complete the Roots CHEF society application

2. Payment of family registration fee of $50

3. Register student

4. Payment of kindergarten registration fee $100

5. Complete Program Plan

6. Two facilitator visits during the school year

2) Non-Funded Registration Requirements: Registration with Roots CHEF society only

In this order:

1. Complete the Roots CHEF society application

2. Payment of family registration fee of $50

FAQ's

Why is there a fee to register a kindergarten student with funding? 

Associate boards are required by Alberta Education to provide the same level of involvement with a kindergarten student as we do for a student in grades 1-12, approval of program plans, and 2 facilitator visits through the school year.  However only 1/2 the amount of funding ($450.50 vs $901.00)  is being given to an associate board for a kindergarten student. This registration fee will help us cover the costs Roots incurres in order to meet the government requirements for an associate board. 

Do non-funded kindergarten students need to pay this registration fee? 

No. Only students who wish to have funding are asked to pay this fee.  Non-funded students do not require facilitator visits or program plans.

 

Can I use my funding to pay for this fee?

No, kindergarten registration fees are not a reimbursable item.
