Hansel and Gretel - Calgary Opera School Tour

Based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Hansel + Gretel tells the story of two siblings who set out to pick berries and get lost in the woods. Upon discovering a mysterious gingerbread house in the forest, the pair think they are saved, only to find themselves having to face off against the strange old woman who lives there. The children must use their wits, resourcefulness and cooperation to outsmart their captor and find their way back home.

Each year, Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artists bring the excitement of live opera to schools across Calgary and southern Alberta. The fun, fully-staged production based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale is crafted especially for young viewers and provides students with a deeper understanding of classical music, operatic singing, creative storytelling and the history and traditions of opera.

There will be a post-show audience discussion to deepen the students’ engagement.

Suitable for Grades K-6. We apologize that we're not able to accommodate younger students or babes in arms.

Registration Deadline: February 4, 2021

START TIME - We will not be able to enter the theatre until our whole group arrives, so please be on time. Parking is limited, so please give yourself plenty of time find parking. Our group will meet inside the lobby at 1:45pm.

My child is not registered with Roots, can they still attend?

Roots families will have the first opportunity to register. 

After December 18, 2020 this fieldtrip is open to all homeschoolers.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you do not have to bring a ticket. We will have a master list with all the registration info. Individual theatre tickets will not be issued, we will be directed to our reserved seats by theatre staff.

If I am unable to attend may I get a refund?

We're sorry but we are unable to provide refunds. But, please feel free to find another family to sell or pass along your tickets to.

Other Important Details: Food, beverages, gum, cell phones, cameras and any recording devices are not allowed in the theatre. Please ensure that your students are aware of this.
