About the Event

Join us for a day on the slopes!

Date: Tuesday, January 19, 20201

Time: Skiing/snowboarding is from 9:30/10 until 4pm

         Tubing is from 1-3pm

Registration Deadline: Tuesday, December 29, 2020

Minimum Numbers:

We need a minimum of 20 students to run the ski day and minimum 20 students to run the tubing.

Ages: Students participating in skiing and snowboarding need to be 6 years or older. If you have a child that is 4 or 5 that you would like to join this ski day then please contact the organizer. If there are enough 4 or 5 year olds interested to meet their lesson minimum then we will be able to have a lesson for these kids too and extend the lesson, lift ticket and rental group rates to them. Your other option is to buy a ticket online for the magic carpet area and just supervise them yourself and /or pay $45 for a private lesson.

Group Lessons

Group lessons are two hours with a maximum ratio of 1:8.

The Canadian Ski and Snowboard Instructors Alliance certify all Mt. Norquay Snow Sports Centre instructors.

Rentals

If you are renting ski or snowboard gear from Norquay, then all gear needs to be returned by 3pm. Lifts close at 4pm so if you would like to stay longer than 3pm it's recommended that you rent elsewhere.

Schedule

9- 10 am                   Arrival and get geared up

10am  - 12pm            Students take lessons with Norquay instructors

12pm                        Lunch in the lodge

12:30- 4pm                Skiing /snowboarding with chaperones or with friends

1-3pm                        Tubing at Tube park near the lodge

Arrival

Once you arrive, proceed to the lodge which is the building on your right as you walk towards the ski hill. If you are renting, your rental gear will be already waiting for you in the lodge.  We are aiming to have everyone ready to start their ski/ snowboard lesson by 10am. If you are bringing your own gear you are able to put your boots on in the lodge. There is also a storage rack in the lodge. Each student will receive a lift ticket from the ski/snowboard instructor at the start of their lessons. Once lessons are underway the chaperones and teacher will receive their lift ticket for the day.

Adults/Chaperones

Adults are free to ski until they are required to chaperone. The special rates for adult lift tickets have been extended to us with the understanding that adults who take advantage of these will be available to chaperone kids if required once the lessons are done. These may be your kids or other kids.

Lodge/Food

Adults and siblings that are not skiing are able to stay in the lodge during the day (unless Covid regulations change). There are options for purchasing food and free wi-fi. Please see COVID regulations below for more details.

After Lessons

Once the lessons are complete, the instructors will tell the children where they can ski or snowboard based on their ability. If Norquay staff see a child ski or snowboarding on terrain that they have not been instructed to be on (i.e a green skier going down a black run) then the staff may choose to cut up the child's lift ticket and end their day of skiing early. After the lessons, we will stop for lunch in the lodge and then break into groups to ski and snowboard for the rest of the day.

Clothing

Weather in the mountains can change without notice. We recommended that parents send their kids to Norquay with the following proper winter clothing. Please note soft-goods are not available to rent:

  • Long underwear top and bottom
  • Ski/snowboard pants and jacket
  • Hats under helmets
  • Gloves or mitts (gore-tex/nylon outer shell)
  • Goggles
  • Neck tube or scarf (scarf will need to be inside the jacket)
  • Please avoid cotton fabrics
  • If you have a learner, a spare of gloves is highly recommended. They seem to get snow down their gloves quickly with all their crashing and then their hands get cold.

Covid Regulations

  • i) Masks have to be worn while waiting in line for a lift and while on the lift. They expect the skiers to social distance for others who are not cohorts. Getting the kids a face warmer or snood that they can pull up while in line for the lift is easiest.
  • ii) Masks are required in the lodge except when eating or drinking at your table. Tables have been socially distanced in the lodge, one family per table.
  • iii) There will a health check station before you enter the lodge.
  • iv) A full list of Covid regulations can be found here : https://banffnorquay.com/covid19/
