Roots 3rd Annual Pinewood Derby Race (Calgary)

You are invited to Participate in the 3rd Annual Pinewood Derby

Bring your creativity and science smarts to the table and design the fastest car OR the most creative car!

This is an event will take place at the Roots Year-End Event.

Car pick up: Cars will be handed out to families at the May support group meetings or contact Erin for other pickup locations.

Build your car at home: you have from April until June 5 to come up with the coolest or fastest design

What do the fees include? Costs cover a basic car kit and helps with trophies/ribbons/other costs.

Entry Ticket Only - If you are creating a car for another program this year (Awana or Cadets) then you can purchase an entry ticket to race that same car at the Roots derby. Note: this needs to be a car you are creating this year, it CANNOT be a the same car you used at last years derby.

Car Rules and Race Rules

1) Every Kar must be a current model - no racing last year's car.

2) Kars must be built from official Kub Kar kits

3) Kars must not exceed an overall weight of 5 ounces or 142 grams

4) Kars must not exceed an overall length of 7 inches or 180mm

5) Kars must not exceed an overall width of 2 ¾ inches or 70 mm

6) Kars can not be altered or lubricated in ANY way after the Kar has been registered.

7) The minimum distance between the wheels is 1 ¾ inches or 4.5 cm

8) Each Kar must pass inspection before it can compete.

9) Only the Cub Kar owner can race the Kar.

10) The judge’s decision is final

• This event is only open to Roots families.  
• Recommended Ages:

  All ages can participate. Parents are welcome to help younger kids but kids should be the main architects

• Registration deadline date:

   April 25th - This is a FIRM Deadline, late entry requests will NOT be allowed.

• Race Details:

  The location/venue for the race will be posted once registration for the year end party is available, but the tentative date is June 5th

• Refund Policy:

  no refunds past the registration deadline of April 25th, 2026.

WAIVER

On behalf of my child, I/we hereby waive and release the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship, The Father’s House Christian School and any Roots volunteer/facilitator/administrative staff of the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship from any liability to my(our) children. I/We are fully aware of the risks and potential for harm involved in such events, and on behalf of our child, release from liability Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship (Roots), The Father’s House Christian School and waive any claims such minor may have as a result of an accident, mishap or negligence of the Released Party and/or and other party under or affiliated with the Released Party.

I acknowledge that I, the parent/guardian of the registered attendee/s agree to stay on site at the venue of the program, and if space allows in the classroom to oversee my child/ren for the duration of the program.  Should I not be able to stay at the venue with my child/ren, a handwritten note with my signature will be sent with my child and given to the program organizer, stating the adult who is staying on site and has agreed to be responsible for my child/ren for the duration of the program.
