About the Event
Class #1: Beginners Basic Survival Skills 11am-1pm, Ages 5 and up
Join Kaykima Wilderness Skills in Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area for a workshop in Survival Skills. Participants will get into nature and learn Wilderness Safety Skills such as: what to do if you get lost in the woods, safety around animals, and the importance of positive thinking. The class will move on to Survival Shelters where they will learn about different types of shelters based on environment before getting their hands dirty to construct one of their own. We will end with primitive fire making and discussion on the importance of fire within a wilderness survival context. The workshop is great for children, youth and their caregivers and is a unique opportunity to work together in a challenging and safe natural environment.
Class #2: Advanced Bushcraft Torch Making 2pm-4pm, Ages 7 and up (students need to be able to handle a knife safely)
Join Kaykima Wilderness Skills in Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area for a workshop in Buscraft Torch Making. Participants will get into nature, do a quick walkabout while discussing Spruce Trees, thier uses, how to use resin for torches, and how they trees are helpful in Wilderness Living. Students will create thier own torches while learning some carving skills before lighting the final product. Students can bring their own fixed blade knife (non- folding) if they have one, otherwise knives will be provided for participants.

Can I get a refund for my ticket?
No, once a ticket is purcahsed there are no refunds. You can however find a replacement for your spot, but please let us know who is coming in your place at office@rootshomeed.com
Can babies & toddlers come with me?
No, due to the hands on format of this fieldtrip, we cannot have younger children participate.
Can I just drop my child off at this event?
No, parents are required to attend this fieldtrip with thier children.
Do parents get in for free?
No, parents need to purchase a ticket!
Can Non-Roots families attend this event?
We will open up this fieldtrip to non-Roots families on March 24th
Can students younger than 7 attend the advanced torch making class?
No, due to safety reasons we cannot have younger students participate.
