Youth Day - Skills Alberta in the Classroom - Calgary

Jr & High Schoolers come join us for a day where we get to think about technology, careers, AI

and a Christian perspective on our future.

The morning portion will be streamed online for all students who cannot attend in person to view.

We will have lunch and then try our hands at a trade or 2 depending on the time we have left

Time will be allowed for socializing and playing in the gym

9am – Presentation by Skills Alberta (see description below)

10:30 –Speaker Pastor Tim Stephens – Topic TBA

11:30 – Lunch

12:30 – TRY-A-TRADE (Tin Snipping/Masonry/Carpentry)

Put on by SKILLS ALBERTA: This year’s “Navigating Ever-Evolving Technology” presentation helps students:

 Discover their unique passions, values, and interests to guide future career paths

 Learn to thrive in a rapidly changing world by developing in-demand skills

 Explore careers in skilled trades and technologies and see how Skills Alberta can support them

 Understand the growing role of AI, innovation, and tech in shaping the future

 Get inspired by competitions, programs, and opportunities to explore their interests

Students will engage through discussion, interactive games (with prizes!), and a chance to win a $50 gift card by completing our quick

survey. This is a technology-friendly presentation, and students will be asked to participate in games on their mobile devices (phone/tablet/Chromebook, etc.) at the end of the presentation.

• This event is only open to all homeschooling families with high school students - Christian topics will be discussed.

• Recommended Ages:

  Ages 11+

• Registration deadline date:

   March 16th at midnight

• Should guests bring lunch?

  Yes bring a bagged lunch and water bottle

• Are younger (non-participating) siblings welcome?

  Yes, they need to stay with their parents for the duration of the day. They are welcome to stay and listen or parents can supervise them in a side room to play quietly. 

• Arrival Time:

   8:45am - class starts promptly at 9am

• Refund Policy:

  No refunds past registration deadline of March 16th at midnight

PARENTS' HOUSEKEEPING

1. We need your assistance in ensuring that your children are at class on time. This allows the classes to start in a timely manner.

2. Parents are responsible for supervising their children at all times while the child is not in class.

3. Parents are responsible to stay on site at the venue during class time in case of an emergency.  Should you not be able to stay, a letter with the parent signature, stating who is responsible for your child in your absence (an adult staying on site), must be given to the event organizer.

4. There are no refunds past the registration deadline unless a class must be cancelled due to lack of student enrolment.

5. Each child needs to bring a labelled water bottle, water fountains are not available.

Students: Roots reserves the right to make final decisions regarding the acceptance of any student into the program. Students who do not demonstrate an attitude of cooperation and willingness to respect the rights and property of others will be dismissed after two warnings are issued. There will be no refund.

WAIVER

On behalf of my child, I/we hereby waive and release the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship, The Father’s House Christian School and any Roots volunteer/facilitator/administrative staff of the Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship from any liability to my(our) children. I/We are fully aware of the risks and potential for harm involved in such events, and on behalf of our child, release from liability Roots Christian Home Education Fellowship (Roots), The Father’s House Christian School and waive any claims such minor may have as a result of an accident, mishap or negligence of the Released Party and/or and other party under or affiliated with the Released Party.

I acknowledge that I, the parent/guardian of the registered attendee/s agree to stay on site at the venue of the program, and if space allows in the classroom to oversee my child/ren for the duration of the program.  Should I not be able to stay at the venue with my child/ren, a handwritten note with my signature will be sent with my child and given to the program organizer, stating the adult who is staying on site and has agreed to be responsible for my child/ren for the duration of the program.
