About the Event

Term 1: September 18-January 15 (December 25 and January 1 off for Christmas Break)

Intertestamental and Early Church

How did we get from the Persian Empire at the end of the Old Testament to Romans ruling at the opening of the New Testament? Where did the Pharisees and Sadducees come from? Why was the persecution of Christians so much fiercer than that of other religions? What heresies did the early church deal with? Who were the major players? From the time of Cyrus to the fall of Rome, semester one looks at the formation of the Church and the battles for truth.

Term 2: February 5-May 28 (with a week off for Spring Break)

The Middle Ages

The Roman Empire has fallen…or has it? There are major changes happening in Europe in the Middle Ages; how do they affect the church and the spread of the gospel? How did the church and state become so entangled, what was really behind the Crusades (and why were they such failures), and what’s up with all those popes? Semester two looks at the good, the bad, and the weird of the Middle Ages (with a quick peek at the upcoming Reformation), and how those issues still affect us today.

Assignments: Weekly review questions; mid-term project; final exam; essay

Bonus skills: Geography; note taking; grammar; essay writing skills

Supplies needed: Paper or notebook, folder for handouts, pencil, pencil crayons (students who prefer to take notes with a pen can bring one, but the pencil is required for map marking assignments)
